Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for greasing)
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted (for garlic butter)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • Optional: grated Parmesan, chili flakes, or sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix in melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually add flour until dough forms and pulls away from the bowl.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare garlic butter: mix melted butter, minced garlic, olive oil, and chopped parsley. Set aside.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape into balls and place on a greased baking tray or round pan.
  7. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Brush rolls with half of the garlic butter and bake for 18–20 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding underneath.
  9. Remove from oven and brush immediately with remaining garlic butter. Sprinkle optional toppings if desired.
  10. Serve warm with soup, pasta, or enjoy on their own.

Notes

For cheesy rolls, tuck a cube of mozzarella inside each dough ball before baking. Rolls can be frozen and reheated in a warm oven for a fresh-baked taste.
