Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Cupcakes:
  • 1 box vanilla or chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients on package) or homemade cupcake recipe (12 cupcakes)
  • For the Filling:
  • ½ cup raspberry, cherry, or strawberry jam (seedless preferred)
  • 12 tablespoons water (to thin, if needed)
  • For the Frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons milk or cream
  • For the ‘Bloody Bite’ Effect:
  • Extra jam or red gel icing for drips

Instructions

  1. Prepare cupcakes according to box or recipe instructions. Bake and cool completely.
  2. Warm jam with water in a small saucepan until pourable. Let cool slightly.
  3. Use a paring knife or cupcake corer to remove a small center from each cupcake. Fill with jam and replace top piece.
  4. Beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk; beat until fluffy. Frost cupcakes generously.
  5. Use a skewer or straw to poke two small ‘bite marks’ in each cupcake.
  6. Drizzle jam or red gel icing from the holes to mimic dripping blood.

Notes

Store cupcakes in the fridge for up to 3 days. For best texture, let them sit at room temp for 10–15 minutes before serving. Unfrosted cupcakes can be frozen up to 2 months.
